This 1950 belongs to Sue Coning. It has a flathead V8 with a 3 spd floor shift. It is a very original truck with all the steel body parts. It was purchased from Classical Gas in Colorado. They sent us four pictures and we bought it with just seeing these pictures. We painted it 94 Ford van White and put a set of wheels on it from a 94 van. It is updated with 12V wiring and uses a alternator adapted to the flathead. It also has a set of VDO gauges in a custom made milled aluminum dash. Sue drives it every chance she gets, even to work from time to time. The truck will continue to be updated and improved as much as we can. It looks good and drives good and is a lot of fun. The fun part is what it's all about.

Old Ford Truck Club

In 1994 my wife Judy and I purchased a 1950 F-1 Ford truck from a fellow co-worker, Arthur "Hubcap" Brown. Arthur and I work at the Ford Transmission Plant in Batavia, OH. At that time Judy thought I was wasting money. She said it looked like it had been in a fire. The engine had a tree growing next to it, but all I could think about was how pretty it could be and how I liked the flathead fat fender look. I had a lot of people help me with the mechanical part of it at Tri-City Garage in Hamilton, OH . . . Duke Thompson, owner and personal friend. Also, a member of the Old Ford Truck Club (Dennis Coning) helped me with parts and advice which was greatly appreciated. Judy and I just cruise whenever possible with our sons, Tom and Matthew. Picture above is at the Andy Griffith Mayberry Festival in West Chester, OH with Barney Fife impersonator writing out a speeding ticket. Sincerely, Tom Farris.

There were 148,956 of these trucks made. The engine displacement was a 239 cid., L-head V8, 100 HP at 3800 RPM. 1950 trucks were almost a carbon copy of the previous year models, although minor modifications were made. The grille recess was finished in a ivory color. The 1950 runningboards ended at the edge of the cab and did not continue across to the frame,as the 1949 style did. The F-1 badges on the cowlsides were now stamped out of stainless steel. Two horizontal ribs were now stamped into the firewall. Late in the year the shift lever for the stanard three-speed manual transmission was moved from the floor to the column. Among stanard features were: No-Catch rolled edge flare boards on the 45 cu. ft. bed , removeable brake drums , two-position tailgate , semi-floating hypoid rear axle , all steel floor with hardwood sub-floor to minimize denting in the box , Finger tip control adjustable seat with thick rubberized hair padding , 20 gal. fuel tank , sun visor , extra large rear cab window , ash tray , glove compartment , black runningboards , three-spoke-18 in. diameter steering wheel , and straight throught type muffler.
